WHAT?
VOTE16EB is an initiative advocating for 16 & 17 year olds to vote in the EB Board of Education Elections.
STARTING VOTING HABITS EARLY
Research from Yale University has found that someone who participates in one election is 25% more likely to participate in the next one - showing that voting is a habit. Voting at 16 & 17 will allow for more people to form the habit of voting.

YOUTH ARE READY TO VOTE
Studies demonstrate that 16 & 17 year olds have higher levels of civic knowledge than their mid 20-year-old counterparts.
Voting falls under the category of “cold cognition” - a type of decision making that matures by age 16 and does not increase from there.

CONTINUING A TREND
On January 10th, 2024, a law passed to allow 16 & 17
year olds to vote in school board elections in Newark, NJ.

A similar law was passed in Takoma Park, MD, which found that youth were FOUR TIMES more likely to vote than their 18+ counterparts.
